Freddie The Frog to Return

Longtime 106.9 personality returns after victorious fight with Cancer

(North Canton,  Ohio) April 6, 2010 – Radio station WRQK-FM (Rock 106.9) is thrilled to announce that Sunday April 11, 2010, Freddie The Frog will return to the Sunday Morning Classics Program.

Freddie Shaheen, 68, known as Freddie The Frog to his radio listeners, had been off the air since May 2009, when he was diagnosed with Lymphoma, a form of Cancer.

Over the last eleven months, Mr. Shaheen had been in treatment including a rough round of chemotherapy. He was recently informed by his doctors that he was in complete remission.

WRQK Program Director Greg Ausham said that despite being in the fight for his life, Shaheen was still involved in his show from his hospital bed, despite his absence. “Each week Freddie would call me with songs he would want played” said Ausham. “Listeners sent him requests at the hospital and Freddie made sure we played them.”

The Sunday Morning Classics show features songs not frequently heard on the airwaves. The rarities are hand selected by Shaheen himself for the three hour program that airs 9am-Noon on Sunday’s on WRQK.

Shaheen also recently returned to operating his retail flooring store, Fred’s Carpet at 1722 Applegrove NW, North Canton.
